Our Mission
At GREYS, our mission is to find homes for Greyhounds who have recently retired from racing.
These greyhounds have owners and carers who are very proud of them and respect them as the true athlete they are. From the bottom grade right to the top, these dogs have given their all & we will continue to do the same for them whilst they wait for their forever homes.
We’re proud to be part of the Greyhound Retirement Scheme (GRS) which helps ensure that every greyhound leaving racing enjoys a long and happy retirement. When a racing owner registers their greyhound with GBGB, they are required to pay a £210 GRS payment in addition to the GBGB registration fee. Without this payment, their greyhound is not allowed to trial or race. This GRS contribution is kept securely by GBGB during the greyhound’s racing career. It is then matched and released by GBGB once the greyhound enters a GRS-approved homing centre. This £420 bond is used to cover costs associated with a greyhound’s stay in the homing centre until a forever home can be found. This means that the financial costs of a greyhound’s retirement are covered before they even step foot on the track.
We are a non profit organisation so we do not charge a rehoming fee for our dogs. We do accept donations to help us care for our future hounds but this is completely optional.
